Comments: My husband's great-great grandfather, was Charles McColm who was born at Inch, Wigtown Scotland,in 1828, was married to Helen McDowell and had at least three children in Wigtown before coming to Canada after 1855. His oldest daughter, Elizabeth was Hubby's great-grandmother who married Albert Deans in 1872 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. But they moved back to Ontario where both Helen and great grandmother, Elizabeth died and are buried at Fergus,Ont. Albert and his father-in-law, Charles, along with his brother-in-law, William McColm (born in Ontario in 1865)left for British Columbia in 1887 to take up a homestead here. They are all laid to rest in BC. Charles' second daughter was named Jane Stewart McColm, born in Wigtown, Scotland. I have always wondered why Jane's second name was Stewart and noted with interest that Jane Stewart was married to William McColm. Don't know if there is any connection but... Interesting

Comments: I am seeking information on Hilda McColm (b. 30 October 1886 or 1891 - I have two separate sources). She was a nursing sister in World War I with the Canadian Army. She was born in Newfoundland (not sure where). I believe her father was Robert McColm, who may have been in Newfoundland building the trans-island railway. If so then her mother, Robert's wife, was Jane Newman of Twillingate, Newfoundland. Robert and Jane were married in Twillingate by the Rev. T. W. Atkinson on August 17, 1881. His place of residence is listed as Hall's Bay, which was never a settled community in Newfoundland but the western terminus of the railway for a period of time in the 1880s. Hilda married C. W. Davidson, possibly Clarke Wardlaw Davidson, a member of the Canadian Army in World War I. Any information on Hilda McColm Davidson will be greatly appreciated.
